I'm amazed by how many people base their eating habits on the number of calories they consume, how they justify eating certain foods because they are low in calories even if they are high in sugar and preservatives and that most people have committed to memory how many calories a skinny sugar free caramel latte has. The truth is, we live in a calorie crazed world and we spend our days adding up … [Read more...]

Food for Thought
The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind! Last week I was traveling for work in London and my boyfriend was on the West Coast. So when we finally reunited in NYC, we wanted to spend some quality time together before my parents arrived for the weekend. We kept it local at a neighborhood wine bar called Terroir which serves yummy light bites and has an extensive wine list. I picked up this … [Read more...]
Life’s A Beach
There's no better place to spend 4th of July weekend then at the beach! Whenever I plan a trip to the beach, I make sure to pack lots of healthy snacks. It saves money and I can feel confident lying on the beach in my bikini having had healthy, wholesome food. Here are a few of the items on this weekend's 4th of July menu: Homemade edamame hummus (from the book The 3 Day Cleanse) Using the bread … [Read more...]
Happy 4th of July!
This holiday weekend, remember the 90/10 rule: 90 percent of the time, eat wholesome, healthy food and 10 percent of the time, indulge in the foods you love. Long summer weekends spent with family and friends are the perfect times to practice this rule. My favorite summer indulgence this weekend: Margaritas, of course. Ole! … [Read more...]
Summer Means To Me …
Summer is here and that means outdoor Farmer's Market and the 2010 World Cup! My weekend was jam-packed with both. David returned from a week-long business trip to South America early Saturday morning so after breakfast, we headed over to the Tribeca GreenMarket. Few things make me happier than strolling fruit and vegetable stands for local, seasonal fare. We picked up some fresh garlic, cherries, … [Read more...]
Summer Smoothie Love
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I LOVE smoothies - especially in the heat of Summer! Satisfying and filling, they are my go-to, never-fail breakfast and snack of choice. As long as they are they aren't of the Jamba Juice/sugary, pre-made mix variety, smoothies are nourishing, convenient and fun to make. After relying on green smoothies for quite some time, I decided to change it up but … [Read more...]
Not Another “Diet”
It seems like I'm always on another "diet" these days which is ironic for a health and wellness coach who doesn't believe in diets. This time, I've found myself on a the Candida Diet and while the other cleanses I've blogged about have been by choice and for the sake of research, this particular "diet", or way of eating, is doctor's orders. So what gives? I may be treading on TMI territory here … [Read more...]
Spring Cleanse – Day 3
If Day 1 was difficult, Day 3 was my most umcomfortable day on the cleanse. It didn't help that work chose Day 3 to order in 'witchcraft sandwiches and Magnolia Bakery cupcakes. But more than that, I had taken an herbal laxative on Night 2 (in lieu of the suggested colonic recommended on a cleanse) which caused terrible stomach cramping. Day 3 was also more stressful than usual for me at work and … [Read more...]
Spring Cleanse -Day 2
Day 2 of the lovely spring cleanse has come and gone and it seems it took the spring weather with it! I mentioned in my Day 1 post that I felt hungry all day. While the hunger has subsided a bit and I've gotten used to an empty stomach, the feeling is still there. It can be good to understand the true feeling of hunger so this is worthwhile but after a 6 mile run yesterday, I may have cheated and … [Read more...]
