Weekend Get-away: The Chequit, Shelter Island

09/02/15

Chequit Inn Shelter Island

Like lots of things during summer, my blogging has gone on a bit of hiatus. But I'm back for a minute to rave about our long weekend surprise trip to Shelter Island where we stayed at The Chequit Shelter Island. This trip came just as Summer seemed to settle into New England and we were greeted with the most perfect weather.  Every Summer we spend at least one weekend out East, but it's usually in … [Read more...]

Health Coach vs Registered Dietitian: What’s the Difference?

07/23/15

In my experience, health coaches can often be mistaken for dietitians or nutritionists. And I often get questions about health coach vs registered dietitian and what is the difference between the two. While there are some similarities, there are plenty of differences.  I went to the dictionary to get a baseline definition of each. Merriam-Webster, defines each as follows:  Dietitian: … [Read more...]

Training and Racing

training and racing

I used to spend a fair amount of time on this blog talking about training and racing. If you've been reading for any length of time, you've probably noticed that I haven't posted about my training and upcoming races since my NYC Marathon Race Re-cap last November.  That's because I'm not currently training for a race and I don't have any plans to.  Training burns me out and races … [Read more...]

06/05/15

making self care a habit

How often do you make self care a habit? You may be surprised to learn that most of us know how we can keep our physical, emotional and mental well-being in check with self care, but few of us rarely give it the attention it deserves. In one study, only 6 percent of adults engaged in health-related self care each day.  Six percent?!!? That means 94 percent of us aren't taking the … [Read more...]

Summer Ice Pops Recipe

05/28/15

summer popsicle

This post is sponsored by Evolution Fresh.  The first weekend of Summer came and went and left me with a nasty cold - my first in at least 6 months! One of the ways I keep my immune system strong and re-build it when it takes a hit is by getting a daily dose - or three - of greens. You can never eat too many greens and I make it a habit to have them three times a day: cooked … [Read more...]

How to Know What to Eat and When

05/20/15

Planning for meals, buying ingredients and simply making time to eat a meal: it's hard enough to feed ourselves as adults without having to figure out what to eat and when. Besides, as humans we tend to be creatures of habit. We stick with what we know.  What if you could count on your intuition to guide when and how you eat?  It sounds a little abstract, maybe even … [Read more...]
