Skoop: Plant-based Protein Powder

11/18/14

plant based protein powder

Being an athletic person who is dairy-free and for the most part limits animal products, finding acceptable protein powder for my needs has been a years-long challenge. Most plant-based protein powder that has come before either didn't blend well, didn't digest well or had an unpleasant aftertaste leaving me to give up on them altogether.  Then Skoop came along and the founder … [Read more...]

Cabo San Lucas ‘Planningmoon’

Cabo planningmoon

For most major life decisions, I listen to my head, but there are times when I find my heart wins. Our wedding, in particular, has been more heart-driven.  We chose our wedding venue in the most unconventional way when a couple of months into planning a November NYC wedding (for just two weeks after the marathon), I decided to take a step back and re-evaluate. Right after our … [Read more...]

New York City Marathon Race Re-cap

11/11/14

NYC Marathon

"Running a marathon is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life." As I pushed through 26.2 miles of the TCS New York City Marathon, those words rang true for me just as they did 6 years earlier when I ran my first New York City Marathon in 2008.  In case you were wondering, waiting 6 years between marathons doesn't make it any easier ...  Cold temperatures and 20 mph … [Read more...]

Timex #OneRelay

Timex One Relay

As you probably know by now, I'm running the TCS NYC Marathon on Sunday. You can track my progress using the TCS NYC Marathon App and search by name [Marissa Vicario] or bib number [35644] After four months and more than 300 training miles, the big day is almost here! But before I run the marathon, I'll run the Timex #OneRelay... I'm one of 100 runners chosen to run a portion of the 800 mile … [Read more...]

Fitness Magazine Blogger Meet-up | #FitBlogNYC

10/26/14

Every year, Fitness Magazine hosts a spectacular, invite-only event for local bloggers, appropriately hash tagged #FitBlogNYC.  One of the things I love and appreciate about this event is that it gets me out from behind my computer and offers the opportunity for me to meet bloggers whom I may never have otherwise met. Instead of sticking close to the bloggers I already know, I always try to … [Read more...]

20 Miles & Mental Preparation for the Marathon

10/20/14

mental preparation for the marathon

Last weekend was my longest long run during my training for the TCS NYC Marathon.  That 20 miler haunted me for most of my training.   As much as I wanted to look forward to it and be excited about it, I was too scared. Scared of what? I have no idea. Running 20 miles is daunting and even though I've done it before, it's been awhile. Anything can happen. I wanted that 20 … [Read more...]

Giving Back

10/06/14

giving back

Inspired by Erin's post (with the exact same title - thanks for the inspo Erin!), today I'm talking about how I use my time and talent for giving back. I'm fortunate enough to have everything I need. Living in this huge city, I'm reminded every single day I step outside that there are countless others who don't. Instead of choosing to give money to people on the subway or sidewalks, I've made a … [Read more...]

Apple Picking in New Jersey

10/02/14

Living in New York City, for some, can be draining. More and more I'm feeling the need to get out of the city for extended periods of time: overnights, weekends, weeks, months (!!!) ...  you get the picture. Where I once turned up my nose at an invitation to go to New Jersey, Long Island or Connecticut, I now jump at the chance! And yes, that includes apple picking in New Jersey. Last weekend … [Read more...]

18 Miles + Marathon Hydration Tips

09/30/14

Remember my glorious 15 mile run?  I went into last weekend's 18 miler optimistic that it would be just as glorious. I mean, what's 3 more miles, right?  Well, it wasn't great.  The good news is that I wouldn't say it was bad, but on a scale of great to bad, it was hovering more around not so good. I'm celebrating that I made it through and moving on to discussing … [Read more...]

Both were family/kid-friendly and brought us out to the most stunning beaches: Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge (Sag Harbor) and Shadmoor State Park (Montauk) 💚💋🥾
