Friday Night Dinner

04/01/11

On any given Friday night, the Natural Gourmet Institute may be mistaken by some for a Jean Georges restaurant. Diners line up in droves to claim their seat — which they have called ahead to reserve, sometimes far in advance —  at the cooking school’s Friday Night Dinners. But you won’t find trendy decor, or even tenderloin on the menu…. Read More

Well-oiled

03/21/11

Like a fine wine, there is also an art and a science that goes into creating a good-tasting olive oil. For a long time, olive oil has been a staple in my kitchen so I’ve always had that innate sense that not all olive oils are created equal, but I never fully investigated why. Luckily, I stumbled on a class… Read More

Getting Back on Track

02/25/11

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of travel for me. And I’ll be the first to admit, I’m always talking about planning ahead for travel — packing healthy snacks, researching the closest juice bars. But seriously, the stars don’t always align. Take, for instance, this most recent trip: One week in San Francisco followed by what was to… Read More

Fifteen Ways to Fall in Love

02/14/11

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today is the day many of us celebrate love. So often, that love is focused externally, on a relationship with someone else. I remember a time, not so long ago, when I was running around trying to find that perfect love to celebrate on February 14. Little did I know, I was searching too far. That love… Read More

I Had the Time of My Life

02/14/11

Last weekend I had the opportunity to travel to what is the warmest part of the country right now – Miami, Florida — I was there in a heartbeat to attend The Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s annual conference, a gathering of health coaches from all over the world. Imagine 2,000 of the happiest and healthiest people you’ve ever seen glowing… Read More

Crazy Sexy Me

01/26/11

Last week I attended the first stop on Kris Carr’s book tour at Jivamukti Cafe for her new book, Crazy Sexy Diet. It’s easy to develop a girl crush on Kris the second she starts speaking. She’s relatable, authentic, inspiring and super smart! I couldn’t wait to dig in to her beautiful new book and hear about her experiences with… Read More

Sunday Blogger Brunch with Eggland’s Best

11/22/10

New Yorkers love their brunch! No joke, here in the Big Apple the brunch scene often rivals the dinner scene!   Yesterday Ashley of A Healthy, Happier Bear hosted a Pink Blogger Brunch with Eggland’s Best. Her event was really well done right down to the pink gift bags and I appreciated the opportunity to connect with thirteen other local… Read More

How I Survived Foodbuzz Fest’s Taste Pavilion

11/12/10

The infamous swag bag Blurry but you get the idea .. Who doesn’t love a good tasting? My mouth waters just thinking about it. But the result can often be less gratifying than the experience itself. With so many different, well, tastes, we can confuse our digestive systems and the pace, excitement and standing are not conducive to a pleasant… Read More

I have been wanting to try @matcha_116 since I had heard good things and it's a short walk from SoHo in Greenwich Village. There was no line so I was happy.

The interior is bare bones which is totally fine with me, but I wouldn't necessarily say we got a warm welcome when we walked in. We were the only customers.

I thought this woman was a customer, but it turns out she was making the matcha! The woman who took my order was on the other side of the counter.

This was the set up.

I ordered the16 oz Uji matcha over ice. Milk options were oat or whole. I chose oat. Honestly, the matcha was 10/10. Strong and smooth, just like in Japan. Would totally go back.
