Four Ways to Refuel Your Fall

09/24/12

Summer is officially over and Autumn’s in the air!

A new season is nature’s way of pressing the “reset” button and lucky for you, it’s an opportunity to reinvent yourself a little.

Here are some of my favorite ways to Refuel for Fall:

1. Start a new ritual: My summer ritual was nonexistant. I like to think of it as a transitional time since David and I both left our jobs and I was settling into life as a full-time entrepreneur. Now that I’m settling into a regular schedule with some structure, I’m also leaving some space for a little less structure.

One of my most rejuvenating, feel-good new rituals is taking time  one day per week to ride my bike to my favorite late-morning hot vinyasa class at Prana Power Yoga, then stopping by City Bakery for a green juice on my ride home. Its a simple ritual that makes a huge difference in my day and my week.

2. Buy Seasonal: It sounds totally cliche but there are so many fruits and veggies in season right now that are cleansing in their own rite — Brussels sprouts, beets, squash, turnips, sweet potatoes, apples and pears for starters. Get yourself to a Farmer’s Market and decide to try a new food, buy what looks then go to town in your kitchen.

Not sure where to start? Google the ingredient “+ recipe” or try this easy Fall Veggie Bake.

3. Makeover Your Workout: Whether you were totally active over the Summer or spent more time lazing by the pool than pumping iron in the gym, Fall is the perfect time to add a new element to your fitness regime.

  • Take a new class: I’m still singing the praises of Chaise23, but I also love trying something new from time to time. Two on my list: pure barre and BUTI Fitness. I like to scour deal sites like Living Social or Groupon for specials on packages and some studios even have special offers for first-timers.
  • Buy new gear: Most women don’t underestimate the power of a cute new tank or pair of shoes to motivate us into the gym. One of my new favorite fitness outfitters is Löle Women. Consider yourself warned!
  • Download new tunes: Give your playlist an upgrade. Even a few new songs can do the trick. I’m loving this song by Luke Bryan right now because it reminds me of my home state, Kentucky.

4. Breathe the Air: Fall is the best time to be outside, but I’m totally guilty of getting stuck in the city routine and staying put. David and I are committed to getting out of the city more often this Fall, even if just for a day. Some of the activities on our to-do list, include:

  • apple/pumpkin picking
  • hiking
  • touring the vegetable fields at Stone Barns
  • exploring the suburbs (which involves me convincing him that we need to buy a house there!)

Tell me in the comments below, how you Refuel your Fall.

One of the best ways to refuel is with seasonal juices and smoothies. I’ll be teaching 2 workshops in October on this topic:

1. Löle Women NYC Showtique (TriBeCa)
Tuesday, October 3, 10 – 11 a.m.

Join Mari Relin of Body Conceptions for a full-body strengthening and toning dance/fitness class. After learn the secrets of seasonal juicing and smoothie-making and sip on some Fall Harvest smoothies.

FREE RSVP at https://www.facebook.com/loleshowtiquenyc?sk=events

2. Chaise23 Reinvention Bootcamp
Saturday, October 6, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Experience the wonders of a Chaise23 fusion class in this 2-hour Bootcamp style workout. After get a complimentary stretch session from Madison Square Wellness and learn how to refuel your workout with my own homemade green protein smoothies and energy bars.

I was in the West Village for an event and hadn't had my matcha fix yet. I passed Aoko and made a mental note.

Then I proceeded to pass many more matcha cafes with long lines.

Aoko didn't have a line and it seemed authentic to me. Also, I recalled hearing good things.

The vibe was a little sterile. You order off a screen and there's a huge selection of matcha drinks and ice cream. Then wait for your number to be called.

I chose the Coconut Matcha Cloud. There was no description on the screen and the actual drink looked nothing like the photo.

It was a cloud of whipped matcha floating on top of coconut water with tapioca-like shapes on the bottom.

My expectations were low. But I ended up being pleasantly surprised. Once the whipped matcha mixed with the coconut water, it was incredibly creamy and I could tell the matcha was high quality. 8.5/10. I'll be back to try the regular matcha latte. 💚💋🍵

This is a new-to-me boutique jewelry brand. The pieces are stunning, hold meaningful affirmations and are just incredibly wearable.

I even got to meet the Founder @jennlow.wco who explained the meaning and inspiration behind the pieces.

There were so many beautiful pieces to layer and try on. I chose the Heart Locket Necklace to take home.

Inside it says "follow your heart" and it can be worn open or closed though I like it opened best.

I was also eyeing the You are Magic Medallion Locket.

So I bought that too!

Such a fun morning in the West Village! I can't wait to wear my new jewelry! 💚💋🪎 #wcocommunity
There is so much beauty and nature in and around N There is so much beauty and nature in and around NYC and so much to see and do. We've been taking advantage of the perfect weather and venturing beyond our neighborhood with Valentina to show her all this incredible city has to offer. Last weekend was @metcloisters and @forttryonpark , which brought me back to 2007 in the city when I would circumnavigate Manhattan on my bike starting at the East River down to the The Battery and up the Hudson River to The Cloisters and Fort Tryon Park then back down the East River through Harlem- a 30 mile round trip. We enjoyed a long walk and explored the stunning gardens inside the park before perusing the museum. The perfect way to spend a holiday Monday. 💚💋🏰
