A Beginner’s Guide to Matcha

11/06/18

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve likely heard of matcha! Whether or not you’ve tried it (and like it!) may be another story. As someone who has loved the green tea beverage from first sip, I’m partial to matcha and all of its many health benefits. However, if you’ve never tried it or you’re matcha-curious but have yet to dive… Read More

Ideas for a Healthier Halloween

10/29/18

The custom of trick-or-treating, dressing up and asking for treats door to door, dates back to the Middle Ages in some cultures. But the treat of choice in those days wasn’t candy. In fact, it was usually fruit, nuts or sometimes money. Most of us don’t want to be known as the neighbor who doled out apples and bananas.  Nor… Read More

Bermuda Travel Guide

10/17/18

Bermuda was supposed to be a surprise. Late one night, I checked my Delta app to see what time we would return from our UK trip the week before and there it was. I knew we were doing something to celebrate my 40th birthday, but I secretly hoped it was something cozy and “fall-like”. My first reaction was to wonder, “Why… Read More

40 Lessons I Learned by 40

10/09/18

Turning 40 hasn’t been high on my priority list. In fact, it’s safe to say I’ve been dreading it since the day I turned 30. The past 10 years have seemed to fly. Lately, I’ve been nostalgic for my younger years and yet doing my best to fully embrace this new decade with grace. Although my life hasn’t gone… Read More

Five Benefits of Magnesium + Why You May Need to Supplement

10/05/18

If you’re stressed, drink alcohol, eat any amount of processed food or take antibiotics, chances are you may be magnesium deficient. Up to 75 percent of US adults are deficient in magnesium not just because of lifestyle choices, but also because of the poor soil quality and chemicalized water rampant in this country. Magnesium is a mineral essential to 600… Read More

Harrogate Spa Weekend

10/02/18

Being married to a Brit means that there are occasions when, luckily for us, it’s necessary to travel to the UK. Even before I met David, I had a certain affinity for England – London especially – and last week I was fortunate enough to be able to explore more of the regal country with a Harrogate spa… Read More

What is Intermittent Fasting and Should You Do It?

09/24/18

As I write this, I’m fasting. Am I hungry? Getting there. Do I feel that I need to eat immediately? Not at all. When I first heard about intermittent fasting, I quickly dismissed it as a fad and even if it turned out not to be, it wasn’t for me. After all, everything I’ve ever learned had me believing… Read More

My Top 3 Daily Supplements

09/05/18

As a Health Coach, I’m often asked about supplements. Most commonly: Do I need to supplement? What supplements should I take? What brand of X supplement do you recommend? Until a few years ago, I was just as confused as most people. The thing is, supplementation is deeply personal and individual and I recommend that everyone meet with a doctor… Read More

Gluten-free, Sugar-free Banana Bread Recipe

08/28/18

I’m pretty sure banana bread is one of my all-time favorite things in this world. I’ve had a number of go-to healthy banana bread recipes over the years, but I just recently created my own by combining elements of a few of my favorites. This one is a gluten-free, sugar-free banana bread recipe that uses cassava flour and absolutely no… Read More

DRY JANUARY Some personal thoughts and observatio DRY JANUARY
Some personal thoughts and observations

🍸I did it because I've always wanted to but my social life never cooperated. This time I decided to make it cooperate instead of waiting for it to.

🍸I never had a "problem" with alcohol and didn't drink much, but thought I could benefit from a break as most people could

🍸Being In perimenopause sleep and anxiety have become an issue for me and I found that alcohol potentially exacerbated those issues.

🍸At first it was like breaking a habit as I found myself looking forward to my usual glass of wine on Friday nights to unwind, but I replaced that drink with a yin yoga class and sound bath that I love as a way to regulate my nervous system instead

🍸I've enjoyed feeling more present when I go out to dinner or spend time with friends and exploring the many mocktail and NA drink options on menus has been fun. I've also been drinking more tea.

🍸Am I going back to drinking? Not immediately or maybe not ever. I haven't decided yet but I do know I need more time to reap the benefits of this lifestyle before I decide.

I'll keep you posted!
