The Best of 2017 … Year In Review

01/05/18

Happy New Year flat lay | Year in Review 2018 | Marissa Vicario

Happy New Year! I’m back from an extended trip to the UK and Dubai and what’s a new year without a 2017 year in review post? I acknowledge this is slightly delayed, but better late than never! I think we can all agree that 2017 had its own challenges. From a personal and professional standpoint, I accomplished a lot and for that I’m grateful.

I’m not big on resolutions and I don’t necessarily view a new year as a time to “start over.” I consider my life to be continuous and every day I try to improve. Do I have goals for 2018? Yes, more so intentions, but I don’t weigh them too heavily because I know life happens and much of what I will learn and accomplish this year, may be out of my control.

So, without further adieu, these are my top six most memorable moments (personal and professional) of 2017 …

Memorable Moment #1: Barre Teacher Training

Most of 2017 was dedicated to becoming certified as a barre instructor at The Bar Method in Soho. It was hard work and consumed much of my year, but I’m so proud of the accomplishment and am loving teaching classes. If you’re in NYC, come take class with me! Read more about my training here.

Memorable Moment #2: Two Years of Marriage

In March, I celebrated two years of marriage to the love of my life. We took a trip to Vail, Co. for the occasion and I low-key wrote this post on healthy relationships that I was too self-conscious to share at the time so I’m sharing it now.

Memorable Moment #3: Croatia, Amsterdam, Barcelona

Over the summer we took an epic trip to Amsterdam, Croatia and Barcelona. Barcelona became my new favorite city and I recapped our short 24 hours in Amsterdam here. I was impressed with how easy it was to eat healthy there.

Memorable Moment #4: Expo East and The Influencer Summit

I was invited to the New Hope Blogger Influencer Summit and as a result, attended my first Expo East. I built some solid connections and discovered many impressive brands committed to healthier, more sustainable food. Read my recap of the weekend here.

Memorable Moment #5: Nutrition Workshops for Emblem Health

In conjunction with their awareness campaign for open enrollment, Emblem Health contracted me to teach a series of nutrition workshops around New York City. I taught almost 20 workshops over the course of a month and loved it. Teaching nutrition and wellness is rewarding!

Memorable Moment #6: Running a 15K

After a less consistent-than-usual year of running, I decided to challenge myself (on 4 weeks notice) with a 15K in December which ended my year of running on a high note. It was my first time running a race of this distance. Read about the snowy race and my training in this post sponsored by Mizuno.

I know I was on Instagram more so than the blog this year (read why here), but expect more consistency this year in addition to a re-brand. Wherever you’ve kept up with me, a sincere thank you for sharing the year with me. I wish you lots of health, joy and love in 2018!

I was in the West Village for an event and hadn't had my matcha fix yet. I passed Aoko and made a mental note.

Then I proceeded to pass many more matcha cafes with long lines.

Aoko didn't have a line and it seemed authentic to me. Also, I recalled hearing good things.

The vibe was a little sterile. You order off a screen and there's a huge selection of matcha drinks and ice cream. Then wait for your number to be called.

I chose the Coconut Matcha Cloud. There was no description on the screen and the actual drink looked nothing like the photo.

It was a cloud of whipped matcha floating on top of coconut water with tapioca-like shapes on the bottom.

My expectations were low. But I ended up being pleasantly surprised. Once the whipped matcha mixed with the coconut water, it was incredibly creamy and I could tell the matcha was high quality. 8.5/10. I'll be back to try the regular matcha latte. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿต

This is a new-to-me boutique jewelry brand. The pieces are stunning, hold meaningful affirmations and are just incredibly wearable.

I even got to meet the Founder @jennlow.wco who explained the meaning and inspiration behind the pieces.

There were so many beautiful pieces to layer and try on. I chose the Heart Locket Necklace to take home.

Inside it says "follow your heart" and it can be worn open or closed though I like it opened best.

I was also eyeing the You are Magic Medallion Locket.

So I bought that too!

Such a fun morning in the West Village! I can't wait to wear my new jewelry! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’‹๐ŸชŽ #wcocommunity
There is so much beauty and nature in and around N There is so much beauty and nature in and around NYC and so much to see and do. We've been taking advantage of the perfect weather and venturing beyond our neighborhood with Valentina to show her all this incredible city has to offer. Last weekend was @metcloisters and @forttryonpark , which brought me back to 2007 in the city when I would circumnavigate Manhattan on my bike starting at the East River down to the The Battery and up the Hudson River to The Cloisters and Fort Tryon Park then back down the East River through Harlem- a 30 mile round trip. We enjoyed a long walk and explored the stunning gardens inside the park before perusing the museum. The perfect way to spend a holiday Monday. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿฐ
