That Thing You Do: Health and Happiness Summit with Dr. Oz

03/10/12

What. a.week. I am almost fully caught up after spending last weekend in Long Beach for the IIN Mega Conference and today I’m off to spend a few hours at a photography class.

Photography = my new hobby.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, I’ve started a new Women in Wellness series where I’m featuring some of the women in the field of wellness that I find inspiring. This project was a GIANT undertaking for me and I’m so pleased with how it’s shaping up. So far, I’ve featured former Top Chef contestant and natural foods chef Andrea Beaman, Sharon Gannon co-founder of Jivamukti Yogaย  School, founder of Organic Avenue Denise Mari and Soul Cylce co-founder Elizabeth Cutler.

I mention the series because when I went to the Health and Happiness Summit two weeks ago, Dr. Oz closed out the program by asking each of the health experts to share one thing they do everyday to promote health.

This is one of the very questions I pose to the women I feature in the Women In Wellness series so of course I had to share their answers.

Serendipity!

Here’s what they each had to say:

Dr. Oz

Does a 7 minute workout

Dr. Michael Breus, The Sleep Doctor

Doesn’t use the snooze button on his alarm, in fact he doesn’t use an alarm clock at all!

Lisa Oz

Eats a plant-based diet (she’s been a vegetarian since 15-years-old!)

Dr. Rovenia Brock

Prays and meditates three times per day so that she can be led by spirit rather than ego

Dr. Nicholas Perricone

Meditates five minutes per day

Dr. Christiane Northrup

Remembers and writes down her dreams to open the funnel over her head to diving love

Dave Wentz

Drinks and cooks only with purified water

I have many daily wellness practices but the one thing I do everyday without fail is eat a healthy breakfast. It sets me up for my day and regulates my appetite and cravings.

I have been wanting to try @matcha_116 since I had heard good things and it's a short walk from SoHo in Greenwich Village. There was no line so I was happy.

The interior is bare bones which is totally fine with me, but I wouldn't necessarily say we got a warm welcome when we walked in. We were the only customers.

I thought this woman was a customer, but it turns out she was making the matcha! The woman who took my order was on the other side of the counter.

This was the set up.

I ordered the16 oz Uji matcha over ice. Milk options were oat or whole. I chose oat. Honestly, the matcha was 10/10. Strong and smooth, just like in Japan. Would totally go back.
