Summer is here and that means outdoor Farmer’s Market and the 2010 World Cup! My weekend was jam-packed with both. David returned from a week-long business trip to South America early Saturday morning so after breakfast, we headed over to the Tribeca GreenMarket. Few things make me happier than strolling fruit and vegetable stands for local, seasonal fare. We picked up some fresh garlic, cherries, arugula, Swiss chard, carrots, broccoli, a tomato and some fresh flowers followed by a disappointing USA loss to Ghana viewed on the big screens at Reade Street Pub and Kitchen π
Sunday was more of the same. Another disappointing loss for England that morning called for a trip to the New Amsterdam Market at the South Street Seaport. Since we had stocked up on fruit and veggies the day before, I used my time there to seek out some homemade bread of the yeast-free variety in my quest to maintain my yeast-free diet. I chose a whole wheat sourdough from Bread Alone and Finnish Ruis, Nordic whole grain rye, pre-sliced sandwich rounds from Nordic Breads. Both rye and sourdough breads are naturally yeast free and full of nutrients and fiber. I’ll be posting some of my favorite creations with these wholesome goodies.
We finished our perfect sunny Sunday day with a succulent Lobster roll from Luke’s Lobster and a stop by Nelson Blue to watch Argentina beat Mexico!
