Day 2 of the lovely spring cleanse has come and gone and it seems it took the spring weather with it! I mentioned in my Day 1 post that I felt hungry all day. While the hunger has subsided a bit and I’ve gotten used to an empty stomach, the feeling is still there. It can be good to understand the true feeling of hunger so this is worthwhile but after a 6 mile run yesterday, I may have cheated and eaten the scrumptious snack bar provided by BPC earlier in the day than I should have. *And I may have snuck a bit of Larabar in the afternoon for sustained energy* There are many feelings that occur during a cleanse that the body can fight through but for me, lightheadedness is not one of them.
While I’ve been lucky and haven’t experienced any skin breakouts, headaches or fatigue that often come with a cleanse, I have noticed one wonderful side effect — NO CRAVINGS! It is the greatest benefit yet and I hope it lasts once the cleanse is over and I return to my normal clean way of eating. Cravings result from the salt, fat and sugar-laden foods we eat and they can get the best of us. It feels liberating not to be controlled by a craving.
Yesterday’s juices were the same as Day 1 and last night’s meal was a healthy serving of cucumber basil soup and seven mini portabella mushrooms with a red pepper and edamame stuffing that resembled hummus on top of a bed of spinach. The mushrooms were tasty but the soup was not as dynamite as the previous night’s yellow pepper soup. However, the pumpkin mousse, one of the nightly “sweet treats” was to die for! Seriously better than the real deal pumpkin pie!
So far, no cravings and looser clothes. Tune in tomorrow to find out what Day 3 brings.
