This is the first time I’m saying this out loud on this blog: I’m training for the TCS New York City Marathon.
I wasn’t so sure about running the marathon again (after my first time in 2008 I swore it was my first and last), but since I’ve started training, I’ve been really excited about it and feeling more confident and committed to my training plan.
I truly love fresh juice as part of a healthy diet and it’s especially refreshing after a long training run during the hot, humid summer months.
The first time I tried Evolution Fresh, I was totally hooked and now they’re offering even more juice flavors perfect for summer like Organic Spicy Lemonade, Coconut Water and Greens and Sweet Burn to help quench summer thirst while delivering hydration and important nutrients to your body.
While the fruits and vegetables used to make the juices are raw, the juices themselves are not. However, they are cold-pressed to keep in the nutrients. Evolutions Fresh peels, presses and squeezes raw fruit and vegetables to make the juice. After chilling, blending and bottling, they use High Pressure Processing (HPP) to help protect the flavor and nutrients.
While this is not as beneficial as having a fresh, raw juice, I appreciate that the Evolution Fresh juices travel well. I brought two with me on-the-go to stay with friends in the Hamptons for a weekend.
The juices are delicious straight out of the bottle. I love Sweet Burn (apple, cayenne, ginger, coconut, beets, pineapple and lemon) for post run recovery. The coconut water re-hydrates, pineapple helps fight inflammation and beets are beneficial for endurance sports.
Coconut Water and Greens is my favorite for an afternoon pick-me-up. I usually pair it with an Evolution Fresh Harvest bar made from fruits, nuts and seeds (and naturally sweetened) which hits the spot when I’m running errands or traveling between meetings during the day.
You can also use the juices to make other treats like cocktails, ice pops or even smoothies.
This Un-Green Smoothie uses Evolution Fresh Pineapple Coconut Water for a filling post-run meal. I call it “Un-green” because while it’s loaded with all the goodness of a green drink, it doesn’t taste “green” at all. This smoothie is filling and refreshing.
Un-green Smoothie
1-2 big handfuls of spinach
1 cup Evolution Fresh Pineapple Coconut Water (or 1/2 cup Pineapple Coconut Water and 1/2 cup Almond Milk)
1 frozen banana
1/4 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1 scoop greens powder or protein powder of your choice (optional)
1 Tbsp. Almond butter
1 tsp. coconut oil or coconut butter
1 cup ice
Throw all ingredients in a blender or blender bottle and blend. Serve immediately.
