Since April, it seems I’ve been traveling non-stop! First Whistler, then Florida, then back to Florida and now to San Francisco.
I read a lot of wellness blogs and magazines and a favorite topic is how to stay healthy while traveling. Believe me, I once longed for the secret formula. These Facebook posts from 2008 tell all:
(Remember when Facebook status updates all started with “is”?)
“is heading back to NYC. sick.”
“is has the flu … again …”
I have certainly had my fair share of colds while traveling but now it’s rare that I do.
I could tell you to eat healthy, stay hydrated, get lots of sleep while you’re traveling but let’s be realistic: Even with the best of intentions, those things don’t always happen when you’re away from home and out of your routine.
So here is my #1 healthy travel secret: Stay healthy when you’re not traveling.
Gasp! Sounds simple but it’s true.
If you do the usual eat well, stay hydrated, get enough sleep, when you’re at home, then your immune system will be strong enough to handle whatever your travels throw your way.
Simple as that.
