The sneaker market is worth 100 billion dollars and these days, there seem to be as many styles of sneakers from which to choose. And for good reason. Sneakers are comfortable, supportive and look good with almost any outfit.
But how do you choose the right sneaker for your foot?
No matter what activities your day involves, this guide will help you choose the right sneaker for you.
First, choose the characteristics of the shoe you like. Some of this comes down to fashion and the rest is function.
Color
Do you prefer a dark shoe or a light shoe? Consider how and where you’ll be using the shoes. Dark colors show less dirt whereas lighter colors can look dirty faster.
Material
Sneakers typically come in suede, leather and canvas. Suede sneakers look good but can be difficult to clean. Leather sneakers are often durable and of good quality, but aren’t as breathable and can feel hot in warmer climates. Canvas is more breathable and easier to clean but can tear easily.
If sustainability is important to you, consider a shoe made from recycled materials. Some manufacturers, like adidas, are pledging to end plastic waste and are making fully compostable shoes from natural and sustainable materials. This practice not only helps the environment, it also reduces their carbon footprint and makes a longer-lasting, more durable shoe.
Height
When choosing the right sneaker, also consider the sneaker height. High top sneakers will keep your foot warmer in cold weather, but may be too hot for the Summer. High tops are an ideal shoe for basketball and skateboarding because they protect the ankles. Low top sneakers are ideal for walking and running and are easy to put on and take off.
Fit
Arguably, the most important aspect of choosing the right sneaker is fit. It’s important to not just buy the right size shoe, but to make sure it feels good on your foot. If you have a chance to try the shoe on before you buy it, do. If you’re a runner, the adidas shoe finder can help you find the right running shoe for you.
