My Rent the Runway for Pregnancy Review + Promo Code

08/09/19

Rent the Runway promo code and pregnancy review | Marissa Vicario Health Coach | Shoshana Pink Floral Halter Dress

One of the simple joys of this pregnancy is dressing my bump. I started outgrowing my pre-pregnancy clothes around Week 13. However, I feel adamant about not buying an entirely new wardrobe or frumpy maternity clothes. So, I decided to try Rent the Runway for pregnancy. After using it through my second trimester and now into my third, I can offer my honest review and experience.

Use my Rent the Runway promo code RTRMARISSA for 40% off your first two months of an 8 or 16 item plan.

Not Just Maternity Clothes

Before I signed up, I assumed that using Rent the Runway for pregnancy meant I would have a limited selection. However, that was absolutely not the case. One of the reasons I appreciated it so much is because I had access to both maternity and non-maternity clothes. I could search the entire catalog of clothes by indicating that I’m expecting and inputting my pre-pregnancy size and due date.

To that end, I had a slew of options available. By perusing Rent the Runway’s sizing suggestions and user reviews, I determined the size that would be best for me for each item.

The best thing about using Rent the Runway for pregnancy is that even on the days I wasn’t feeling my best, I had something to wear and felt put together. In my opinion, having that confidence during pregnancy is priceless. Using Rent the Runway has become addictive in the best way!

Since the majority of my pregnancy was during the Summer, I stuck with dresses and lightweight jumpsuits. I also rented a pair of designer maternity jeans that I loved!

What I Liked:

  • A huge selection of maternity and non-maternity items curated based on my preferences
  • The ability to constantly rotate my wardrobe
  • Helpful customer service
  • Free and fast (often, same-day) delivery
  • User reviews to guide my selections
  • An easy-to-use app that helped me organize the items I like and effortlessly access available items
  • The ability to purchase any must-have item
  • Always looking put together without spending time and money to shop – something that can be particularly challenging during pregnancy.

But it wasn’t always rainbows and butterfiles – there were a few aspects with which I was disappointed.

What Could Be Improved:

  • Customer service: Although mostly kind and helpful, it was often hard to reach customer service or it had long wait times. Sometimes they offered a satisfactory solution but the limitations of the technology made it hard to execute smoothly leading to more calls and follow ups.
  • The retail store: The retail store has a very limited selection and many of the employees on-site aren’t helpful.
  • Selection and availability: While there is a large and seemingly never-ending selection of clothing, many items I “liked,” or “hearted” are rarely available in my size. Furthermore, availability is hit or miss. It’s available one minute and gone the next so you have to act fast.
  • Fit: At times, I’ve had to try several items before finding something that worked for me. Partly, this comes with the territory of renting non-maternity clothing for maternity use.
  • Consistent communication: When an item goes out for delivery, RTR is supposed to send a text or email with a tracking number. However, they aren’t always consistent in doing so.

UPDATE:

Since writing this post, RTR has made some changes and resolved many of the previous issues I mentioned. Customer service is always responsive and easy to reach. All employees are friendly. Delivery and communication is fast and consistent. Finally, I’ve had very few issues with item availability.

With my wardrobe taken care of, I focused on buying a few essentials like these pregnancy must-haves for all trimesters. In this way, I’ve saved tons of money and feel good about making a sustainable choice. I have peace of mind knowing I won’t have a pile of maternity clothes sitting in my closet or relegated to a giveaway pile after I give birth.

If you’d like to try Rent the Runway for pregnancy (or otherwise), use my Rent the Runway promo code RTRMARISSA for 40% off your first 2 months of an 8 or 16 item plan.
