5 Reasons Why I Hired My Own Health Coach

08/31/16

why I hired my own health coach - marissa Vicario

At the beginning of this year, I knew I wanted to put a bigger focus on my own health and well-being after spending years focused on building and growing my business. I was launching a book, planning for a family with my husband and coaching a record number of clients. It was time to pay attention to the things that I had been ignoring for too long. It was time to truly become the best version of me.

I wrote a post here about my struggles with body image. That was only the tip of the iceberg. There was more beyond that so in March, I made an appointment with a functional healthcare professional and started working with a health coach. In short – and I’ll write about it at length in another post – I’ve completely overhauled my diet and workouts since March. I’m confident I couldn’t have done this without the support of and accountability to another coach.

Sure, I already knew a lot, but I wasn’t applying that knowledge to my life because I was in denial that I actually needed to. “I’m a health coach so I’m doing everything I should be doing while maintaining balance in my life.”

I was comfortable. Too comfortable. And that comfort didn’t translate into being my healthiest self.

Working with a health coach has been a game-changer for me:

  1. It has opened my eyes to what was going on in my life that was preventing me from reaching my wellness goals
  2. It has kept me honest with myself and motivated me to move forward with some of the dietary changes I knew I needed to make, but was resisting because I was scared of not having the foods that gave me comfort.
  3. It has given me perspective and resources I’d never considered.
  4. It has been a safe place to ask questions and pick apart my habits.
  5. It has taught me more about myself and nutrition that I feel confident applying to my own life because I know it’s right for me (as opposed to something I read online or that a friend has done).

The world is a challenging place and life throws us curve balls. We all need someone to lean on and hold our hand to navigate the ups and downs. There’s no shame in that.

If youโ€™re ready to finally feel freedom from food and fad diets, check out my book, Your Holistically Hot Transformation: Embrace a Healthy Lifestyle Free of Dieting, Confusion and Self-Judgment and/or schedule a complimentary Freedom From Fad Diets Mini-Session with me.
