From time to time, I stop in and post a little update on running, specifically where I am with it at any given moment in my life, because these things change. Once upon a time, I wrote more about running than I admittedly do now. Weekly posts about marathon and triathlon training were the norm. You may have noticed that all of that has fallen by the wayside over the past year or so. In fact, earlier this week I announced that I’m training to be a teacher at The Bar Method.
So what happened to running? I’m still running and I still love and need it, but I’m not running as often. Sometimes I make it out for a run twice a week, sometimes less, and right now, I’ve chosen to be ok with that.
The truth is, I’ve made my health and balancing my hormones a priority over the past year. I have very specific goals that I will explain in more detail at some point when I’m ready, but for now, know that I realized high mileage running isn’t aligned with the goals I have at this stage in my life.
I’ve put my focus on and channeled my passion for running into effective, but lower impact workouts like barre and yoga.
Now, when I do get out for a run, I enjoy it even more and feel more grateful than ever to be outside running.
My update on running: I’m not running as much as I used to because my focus is on something else that serves me better on most days and that’s ok, it’s what I need right now. Running will always be there to come back to. Like it has always been. That’s why I love running and why I’ve been a runner for almost 20 years.
If you find yourself in a similar place with running or anything else in your life, let go of the “shoulds” and just to what serves you today.
