What constitutes the perfect weekend has changed a lot in recent years. It used to be that hitting up all the NYC hot spots was what I was after. Now, it’s all about lots of rest, a good workout and healthy food. Oh, yes, things have changed!
After a later-than-usual Thursday night at The Kooks concert, all I wanted to do was stay inside out of the cold on Friday night. I offered to cook up some healthy comfort food, Portobello Burritos (from one of my favorite cookbooks, The Urban Vegan) while my boyfriend picked up a bottle of red wine.

While I was out buying burrito ingredients, I threw in this Rest and Relax Yogi Tea sampler.
Once dinner was over, I settled in with my tea and a few laughs with the movie Due Date before reading a few pages in what has quickly become my new favorite book.
After nine solid hours of sleep, David and I woke up bright and early Saturday. I went for a long run while he caught up on some work. Starving once I got back, I made one of my favorite breakfasts – an egg over easy with sauteed kale on half a sprouted grain bagel.Hits the spot every time!
After some errands and a trip toΒ Juice Press to pick up some weekend essentials, I made my way to Soho for a much-needed haircut at Sam Brocato Salon before heading back home for some down time and to get ready to head out to dinner. Since I live in one of the best neighborhoods for restaurants, we didn’t have to travel far which was a good thing because we were expecting my parents who had a 24-hour layover in NYC on their way home from their trip to Italy.
Mom and dad on their anniversary (not this trip) |
We caught up over a couple glasses of wine and again the next morning over a light breakfast before heading to Sarabeth’s Tribeca for lunch. We strolled back to my apartment in the afternoon sunshine in time to see my parents off to the airport and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon leisurely. My weekend may seem dull to some but for me it was exactly what I needed to recharge my battery!
What’s your idea of the perfect weekend?
