In less than two weeks, I’ll be a married woman! But I wouldn’t walk down the aisle without my something old, something new.
This Saturday we leave for beautiful Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and I’ve never ever in my life been more excited for a trip.
I can’t wait to spend the upcoming days with our closest family and friends who are traveling long and far to be with us on our special day.
Planning a wedding was more than I ever bargained for, but I’m so happy that the weekend will be a perfect reflection of us as a couple. I will say that if I knew then what I know now, I would have eloped. Definitely!
I can’t wait to share some of the details and photos from my wedding weekend when I’m back, but for know I’ll leave you with my something old and something new.
In case you’re interested (because I was!), the tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue is a traditional British rhyme that refers to the four good luck charms the bride carries with her on her big day. Something old is for continuity, something new represents optimism for the future, something borrowed is for borrowed happiness and something blue represents purity, love and fidelity.
My something new is a pair of handmade mother of pearl earrings by Summer Eliason. I went to high school with Summer and I’ve always admired her jewelry. On my recent trip to Louisville, I stopped by her store and picked out the earrings pictured, which I’ll wear on my wedding day.
My something old is something so very special and unexpected. It’s a handmade, embroidered handkerchief that my aunt bought many years ago in Bruges, which she planned to give to me for this special occasion.
I’ve felt so much love from family and friends leading up to this moment and I’m reminding myself to be in the moment on the day so I never forget a second.
See you when I’m back when I’ll be blogging as Marissa McFarland!
