In honor of Independence Day, I’m sharing three of my favorite red, white and blue recipes: a juice, a nut milk and a smoothie.
Red – Bloody Mary
2-3 carrots
2-3 beets
3-4 celery stalks
1/2 green apple
1/2 lemon
pinch cayenne
White – Hemp Milk
1 c hemp seeds
3 c water
3 Tbsps green stevia or other alternative sweetener
1 Tbsps vanilla extract
pinch of sea salt
Blend for two minutes. Serve chilled if drinking straight as a snack or in smoothies. Add it to oatmeal at room temperature. Store mine in a tightly sealed mason jar in the refrigerator –for 3-4 days.
Blue – David’s Superfood Smoothie
water from 1 young Thai coconut (if fresh coconut water isn’t available you can use packaged – I like Harmless Harvest or Zico)
handful of greens (whatever you have – kale, collards, spinach, etc).
1 c frozen blueberries
4-5 pineapple chunks
1/2 banana
1 Tbsp chlorella
1/2 tsp maca powder
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 c ice
Blend it all together in a high speed blender.
