After 13 years in New York City, I’ve only actually been in the city on Christmas Eve one other time and I forgot how much I appreciate it. By Christmas Eve, we’re usually visiting David’s family in the UK or my family in Kentucky. This year, though, we spent the whole week in NYC then flew to Kentucky on Christmas Day, stress-free.
I loved last week in New York City because the city was so much quieter and people were nicer. All week I had a major craving for Ramen, so on Friday I found Ramen-Ya, a tiny West Village hole-in-the-wall that serves gluten-free, vegetarian ramen. Great find, but I forgot how salty and un-filling ramen is, so that craving probably won’t be back at least for awhile.
On Christmas Eve, David and I went to Mass, then ventured over to Gramercy Park to see the Carolers.
The park is private and never open to the public except for this one night a year. It was a magical experience being inside the park with everyone singing Christmas Carols. I’ll never forget it.
After Caroling, we walked over to the newly re-opened Union Square Cafe for an exquisite dinner before coming home to exchange our own gifts.
On Christmas Day, our flight landed in Kentucky in time for a big Christmas lunch with my family. We’ll exchange gifts a little later this week when the entire family is together.
I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday!
