This weekend in New York, we finally had Summer weather! After lots of rain and unseasonably chilly weather, I was elated that the temperature reached the 90’s. David and I promptly decided that it was a beach day, but then, so did the rest of the city.
The thing about New York City is that sometimes even the simplest thing, like going to the beach, can become exhausting. Since the ferry to Rockaway Beach is now only $2, we decided to go that route as did everyone else. After an unexpected two hours in line, we boarded the boat and 45 minutes later arrived in the Rockaways where we hopped on a shuttle bus to the beach.
A “tour” of most of the city beaches last year, had us loving Rockaway Beach for its laid back vibe and choice of food and drinks. Because it’s a public beach, it does get fairly crowded and yesterday was no different. Everyone was practically on top of each other. Still, it was the perfect way to escape the city and the cool breeze off the ocean made the steamy weather bearable.
After a few hours at the beach, we headed to Rockaway Surf Club for a cocktail before hopping on the A train back home.
We still love Rockaway Beach but we think next time we’ll drive!
