Notes from the Weekend: Weekend in Philly

01/31/17

Weekend in Philly - Where I Need to Be

This morning we returned from a short, but wonderful weekend in Philly to celebrate David’s birthday.

We kept Friday low key and after a yoga class at Yoga Vida, we headed to Sugarfish for sushi. Once we got in line, we had an hour and a half wait which was reasonable for a restaurant that has a no reservation policy and is nearly impossible to get into. After a tasty sushi dinner, we called it a night and went home to pack for our Philly get-away.

Weekend in Philly - mural - Where I Need to Be

I had an early wake-up on Saturday and went to a barre class at The Bar Method and then on to meetings until 5pm. David picked me up in SoHo and we were on our way to the City of Brotherly Love. After a quick hour and a half drive, we arrived The Logan Hotel and got ready for our dinner reservation at Friday Saturday Sunday.

Weekend in Philly - Friday Saturday Sunday - Where I Need to Be

The restaurant has been a Philly mainstay in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood, but was recently sold and opened under new ownership. We loved our meal and the service to match. It was a perfect spot for a birthday dinner and definitely earned all of its 5-star reviews.

Weekend in Philly - Jurassic World - Where I Need to Be

On Sunday, we had an early breakfast at the hotel’s farm to table restaurant, Urban Farmer. I had a huge vegetable frittata loaded with seasonal vegetables. Then we walked around downtown and Rittenhouse Square before heading to The Franklin Institute for the Jurassic World exhibit. We probably wouldn’t have gone there otherwise, but the tickets were a freebie with our hotel room, so we decided to check it out. Admittedly, I’m not that into dinosaurs, but I thought the exhibit was impressive.

Weekend in Philly - Sweetgreen - Where I Need to Be

After seeing the exhibit, we were hungry again so decided on our old standby, Sweetgreen for a late lunch of warm chickpea curry bowls. I always add arugula to mine!

Weekend In Philly - Gran Caffe L'Aquila

After lunch, we strolled around a little more, shopped and David had a cappuccino at authentic Italian coffee house, Gran Caffe L’Aquila.

Weekend In Philly - The Dandelion - Where I Need to Be

Dinner on Sunday was at The Dandelion, a modern British Pub which was cozy and comforting on a cold Sunday night. My dietary restrictions led me to the salmon and Brussel sprouts, which were done so well that it wiped out any reservations I had about ordering something so seemingly basic. David had the classic fish and chips for his birthday splurge and it was perfect.

Philly was a nice winter weekend away from the city and though it was quick and we stayed around the same neighborhood, we made the most of our time there. We’ll definitely be back when the weather gets warmer to explore more.

How was your weekend? Have you spent a weekend in Philly? Or do you have a favorite town close to home where you can get away for a night or two?
