So far this year there’s been the More Fitness Half Marathon, a Spartan Race with Reebok and now I’m moving on to the next challenge: the Athleta IronGirl Triathlon (formerly the Danskin). Don’t let the name mislead you, this race is a sprint distance triathlon (1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run) in Sandy Hook, NJ on September 8. It’s the same race I took on last summer after a three year hiatus from racing. I’m really excited to be doing it again, this time with the help of my coach Mike Ricci from D3 Multisport. He’s created a customized training plan for me so I can get in top shape to meet my goals.
I started training this week so keep coming back for updates.
In the meantime, if you’re thinking about doing this race, I highly recommend it. It’s a gentle race, all women and great for beginners or first-timers. IronGirl’s mission is to empower women toward a healthy lifestyle. A lot of people ask me, “do you think I can do it?” My answer is always YES! If you train, you can do anything. BUT, you have to WANT it and of course, have fun in the process.
IronGirl has given my readers a special discount code for $10 off race entry valid through July 1. Sign-up early because the price goes up after August 8 and area hotels sell out!

Hi Marissa – I need some advice. My husband and his friends convinced me to do a Tough Mudder in Charlotte in November. I’m really out of shape. Can you help me figure out how to get ready for it? Thank you so much!!!

katbiggie That’s great! I can’t give training advice because I’m not a personal trainer. Food and nutrition though, I’ve got that!
