I’m not sure which came first, my love of matcha lattes or my love of Cha Cha Matcha, an adorable and kitschy matcha cafe nestled in the heart of Nolita on Broome St.
It was a sunny Saturday morning when my husband and I had just finished up breakfast at nearby Two Hands that we stumbled on Cha Cha Matcha as we walked off our acai bowls and avocado toast. The palm-treed pink and green decor pulled me right in and I couldn’t resist leaving without a hot coconut matcha latte. It was love at first creamy sip and from then on, I was hooked.
Let me just say that me and caffeine aren’t really friends. I’ve never needed or craved it, but for matcha, I make an exception.
Matcha is a finely ground powder of the green tea plant. It boats several health benefits – metabolism support and increased energy among them. Matcha doesn’t seem to affect me the same way caffeine does. Reportedly, it makes you more alert and focused without the jitters and I’ve found that to be true for me. I don’t have it daily, but once in awhile, I treat myself.
The menu at Cha Cha Matcha is succinct offering not only matcha drinks, baked goods and even soft serve ice cream, but also coffee drinks like lattes and cappuccinos.
I always go for the coconut matcha latte made with – you guessed it – coconut milk. Iced or hot, you can’t go wrong. You can add sweetener according to taste but I prefer mine unsweetened.
