Letting Go …
After the most magical bridal weekend in Louisville where I celebrated my upcoming nuptials with my family and closest friends, my travel back to New York City has been anything but. A true practice in letting go.
Two cancelled flights, a 4 a.m. wake-up for the first flight out and now a five-hour delay because of mechanical issues was not in the plan.
I’ve had to cancel meetings and appointments and the healthy food I’ve been craving will have to wait.
In situations where my lack of control is apparent, the easiest thing for me to do is panic and become anxious. Instead, I practice letting go.
It takes more effort but I end up getting through these situations with more ease when I take a deep breath (or several), remind myself I’m not in control and it’s not up to me, then find the most comfortable spot I can- a quiet seat away from crowds or a table at Starbuck’s – grab a hot tea and use the time for something productive.
How do you handle letting go and deal with unexpected delays and inconveniences?
