Yesterday I started a new 40 day cleanse. This isn’t one of my usual raw food or juice fast cleanses, it’s a different type of cleanse designed to rid my Inner Mean Girl (IMG). We all have one. You know who she is, your worst enemy but also your best friend because while she’s your harshest critic, the two of you are inseparable. Lucky for me, I’m sending her packin’.
- You’re not thin enough
- Your boobs are too small
- Your butt is too big
- Your tummy isn’t flat enough
- You don’t eat perfectly enough to be a health coach
- Her blog/web site/coaching practice is better than yours
- You’ll never stand out among the rest in this field
- You’re a terrible girlfriend and partner
- Most people don’t like you
Attention: Once I notice the IMG sneaking up behind me, I give her my attention and invite her to speak to me on paper. Creating the time and a sacred space to do this is key as it allows all the toxic energy to spill out.
Allowing: The final step is to allow the Inner Kind Girl (my inner wisdom) to respond to all the junk to shift the perspective and claim my power back from the IMG and transform my story and my life. For example, and my favorite one: “My inner wisdom knows I have a gift to share with the world.”
It takes at least 30 days to create a habit so putting these steps into action over the next 40 days will rid the IMG long term and create lasting changes in perception. Over the next six weeks, I’ll be receiving weekly self love dares and I’ll share here how I’m progressing with the cleanse and the dares.
First up, Gossip! Check back in to track my progress this week.
What does your Inner Mean Girl say to you and how would your Inner Kind Girl respond?

Love the post. I can especially appreciate the sentiment that the IMG says things that are totally against or negate in what we are professionally trained and do well. I'm always "told" by my IMG that teaching isn't my thing or I'm not an effective mother. This cleanse has totally opened my eyes and really put those negative, toxic thoughts in bright lights for me to see, acknowledge, and put out!
I look forward to reading more.

I love this idea! So many bloggers have been talking about putting an end to fat talk lately. It's something so hard to change after doing it your whole life, like myself. Good luck with the challenge!

Really interesting post – I think we all suffer from this – we are often so hard on ourselves and have trouble being kind to ourselves and our bodies. This is something I'm working on at the moment too x
