Yes, I’m writing a book, but I’ll start at the beginning.
In May 2014, I went to Ft. Lauderdale for the Hay House Writer’s Workshop. At the time I wasn’t sure it was something I wanted to spend my money on (hotel, flight, etc.) and I didn’t know anyone else going, so of course I contemplated just waiting until it came back to my home turf in New York City again.
But there were a few things drawing me to that event on that date.
First, I was in the mindset that I wanted to start writing a book. This conference had a contest attached where 6 months later you could submit a proposal and enter a contest to win a book deal from Hay House. It would keep me accountable. Also, Wayne Dyer was going to be there and I couldn’t be sure he would be at future workshops. (Note: In August 2015 Wayne Dyer passed away suddenly and unexpectedly).
I decided that May 2014 was my time to go.
I soaked up everything I could from that conference, including the concept of letting go of attachment from outcome.
I met Wayne Dyer in person and when I got back to New York, I immersed myself in writing my book proposal and sent it off knowing that if it was my time to write a book, everything would fall into place.
Unfortunately, I didn’t win the contest.
So there I was with a book proposal thinking that I could either look for an agent or self publish. With my wedding and other family obligations on the horizon plus a continued focus on building my health coaching business, I decided the book would wait.
After Wayne Dyer’s passing, I was moved to read his book I Can See Clearly Now. In the book he describes the journey of writing and publishing his first book, how he funded it, tirelessly marketed it, removed all attachment and just in general, he did not give a shit about what anybody thought because he had a message to share with the world.
It reignited that book fire in me and a few days later, I found myself with the opportunity to take a book-writing course through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (Launch Your Dream Book), available to all graduates.
I look for signs as much as possible and if all of the above wasn’t a sign that it’s time to write this book I’ve had in me for years then I don’t know what is!
So here I am preparing to write a book. I don’t take this lightly as I’m pouring my heart and soul into it as well as putting to work my almost-7 years of experience as a health coach, my never-ending training and nutrition knowledge and of course my love of writing which includes a journalism degree.
I’ll keep you updated along the way of course — I can’t wait to share the book with you!
