How to Juice Wheatgrass

How to Juice Wheatgrass

Last week I left you with a tutorial on how to grow wheatgrass. Hint: It’s a lot easier than you’d think! So now it’s time to learn how to juice wheatgrass.

Why Juice Wheatgrass?

There are several benefits to juicing wheatgrass. First, wheatgrass is high in nutrients and antioxidants. This alone, can help reduce inflammation and kill cancer cells. It can also help regulate blood sugar which aids with weight loss. It’s an easy way to flood your body with nutrients and cholorphyll in one simple shot. Some people report that wheatgrass gives them energy, relieves pain and improves digestion.

Once your wheatgrass grows, it’s time to juice it.

First, you’ll need a dedicated wheatgrass juicer. The juicer you use for fruit and veggies won’t work on this stuff. Most wheatgrass juicers are manually-operated or low-speed electric juicers. I chose a cast iron model that seemed easy enough to use and assemble, but I was wrong about it. Assembly took far too long and the cast iron was a bad idea. That juicer went right back to the store.

Some experts recommend this model. It’s also the most budget-friendly.

Juicing Wheatgrass

Once your wheatgrass gets some height to it – six or seven inches over the course of a week – it’s ready to juice. I used some shears to trim the wheatgrass close to the soil, above the white parts of the blades, gave it a rinse, then ran it through the juicer.

I completely underestimated how much wheatgrass would make a shot. One handful didn’t do it, so I’d recommend two or three handfuls to yield 1-2 oz of juice.

Drink it immediately and chase with a wedge of citrus to cut the bitter taste.

You can add the following ingredients for even more health benefits:

  • ginger: immunity
  • cayenne or jalapeno: boost metabolism and fat burning
  • coconut water and chia seeds (makes a drink, not a shot): energy and hydration
  • lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit: flavor and detoxification

DRY JANUARY Some personal thoughts and observatio DRY JANUARY
Some personal thoughts and observations

🍸I did it because I've always wanted to but my social life never cooperated. This time I decided to make it cooperate instead of waiting for it to.

🍸I never had a "problem" with alcohol and didn't drink much, but thought I could benefit from a break as most people could

🍸Being In perimenopause sleep and anxiety have become an issue for me and I found that alcohol potentially exacerbated those issues.

🍸At first it was like breaking a habit as I found myself looking forward to my usual glass of wine on Friday nights to unwind, but I replaced that drink with a yin yoga class and sound bath that I love as a way to regulate my nervous system instead

🍸I've enjoyed feeling more present when I go out to dinner or spend time with friends and exploring the many mocktail and NA drink options on menus has been fun. I've also been drinking more tea.

🍸Am I going back to drinking? Not immediately or maybe not ever. I haven't decided yet but I do know I need more time to reap the benefits of this lifestyle before I decide.

I'll keep you posted!

Winter Storm Photo Dump: I was solo parenting and Winter Storm Photo Dump: I was solo parenting and came down with a bad cold. All I wanted to do was stay inside and rest, but a big dump of snow is so rare in NYC that I didn't want my 6-year-old to miss out, so I told her we would take a walk to check it out after lunch, a promise to myself to get out for fresh air as much as it was to her. She added that on our walk we should get Hot Chocolate - it was a date! So after lunch, we bundled up and made the best memories I could have asked for on a simple walk to get Hot Chocolate. We came back with cold hands and warm hearts. 💚💋❄️
