Hot Water Challenge Results: Week Two

09/23/09

After two full weeks of sipping hot water (see my progress from Hot Water Challenge Week One), I’m happy to report that it is now my drink of choice! I explained hot water benefits in Ayurveda in my first post of the series. Now, read on for my hot water challenge results.

Overall, my feeling of well-being has improved.

It’s true that I’m not sure if I owe it all to the hot water or some of the other dietary changes I’m making in my life, but I suspect it’s a combination of both. As you know, I’ve been experimenting with my diet and lifestyle as I proceed through the IIN Health Coach Training Program. This program has laid a foundation for getting to the bottom of many of the symptoms I’ve been “living with” for several years. This challenge came from an Ayurveda lecture by John Douillard that got me thinking about me own lymph and immune systems.

In addition to my new hot water habit, I’ve been eating a high protein (eggs, fish tofu) and mostly gluten-free diet. I’m juicing regularly, have eliminated refined sugar and chocolate and eat a larger lunchtime meal. For me, this has worked wonders.

My Hot Water Challenge Results

First, my energy has skyrocketed. I used to be plagued by headaches and lethargy. It would come on at midday and last until bedtime.  Now, I feel energized and awake all day and into the evening.

My post- lunch and dinner and mid-afternoon sugar cravings have significantly subsided and many of my pre-menstrual symptoms are gone. Finally, my waist feels trimmer and my body lighter overall.

After months of questioning the right way to eat for my body, I feel confident I’ve found what works for me. I truly believe in bio-individuality, the concept that everyone is different, so what has works for me may not do the same for you.

If, like me, you’ve been sipping hot water, I’m eager to hear your experiences with it!

As always, with diet: experiment, be patient, keep a log, eliminate and add back in. Stick with it and the answers will be clear to you.

These quotes found me for a reason, so I'm sharing These quotes found me for a reason, so I'm sharing for anyone who needs a reminder to choose yourself first.

Last year didn’t break me. It broke me open.

I had to sit with a hard truth: for years, I learned how to shrink. To soften my needs. To edit my voice. To make myself easier to choose.

That season is over.

This year isn’t about seeking validation.
It’s about choosing myself fully, loudly and without apology.

And trusting that what’s meant for me won’t require me to disappear first. 💚💋🫶🏻

Happy New Year! Every year, I like to post a senti Happy New Year! Every year, I like to post a sentiment I've found that inspires me for the year ahead. This one is a little longer than usual, but worth the read. 💚💋🎊

A Willingness to Keep Showing Up

I step into this new year
gently, without resolutions,
with just a simple willingness,
to keep going,
to keep moving forward.

Not the bright, declarative kind of decision
that arrives with banners and promises,
but the quieter kind,
the one that asks for nothing grand.

No transformation.
Just an honest effort
to place one foot in front of the other,
without needing it to be a victory march.

To keep going isn’t strength.
It’s letting the days arrive as they are,
some heavy,
some hollow,
some unexpectedly kind.

It’s allowing grief, fatigue, memory, and love
to share the same room,
without insisting that any of them leave.

There is no list.
No reinvention.
No deadline for becoming someone new.
There is only the steady choice
to remain present,
to trust that willingness itself
is an act of grace.

So this year begins
not with resolve, but with intention:
the intention to stay present,
the intention to try again tomorrow,
the intention to simply keep showing up.
