As I prepare for another New Year’s Eve, my thoughts have turned to all things make-up and accessories. This time of year, I notice I gravitate to a bold lip, and as a woman and Health Coach who likes to wear make-up, I’ve always felt slightly conflicted about my make-up. Because what I put on my body is just as important as what goes in, I’ve often felt like I had to make trade-offs. Healthy instead of trendy, drab in place of color. Needless to say, in the past I’ve felt limited to the products available at health food stores. That’s all changing now with the influx of cruelty-free cosmetics from a variety of cutting-edge brands.
I’ve had the opportunity to try a number of cruelty-free cosmetics for lips and these are a few of my favorites:
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) // The brand is 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free and if you love color, this is for you. Their lip tars don’t budge so you get long-lasting wear from just one application with soothing peppermint oil, Vitamin E and hemp oil. They are also silicone and gluten-free. A little goes a long way with these! The Lip Duo Set comes in several colors (shown here in Lydia). Note: The packaging in the above picture doesn’t reflect OCC’s current packaging.
Winky Lux // Winky Lux sent their Lip Pill (I’m wearing Bunny in the above video and it’s also pictured in the top photo) in this month’s PopSugar Must-Have Box. I love the beautiful festive case and deep color. The formula which uses cruelty-free ingredients is rich and velvety, yet non-drying and goes on matte. Smith & Cult // Paraben and gluten-free and suitable for vegans, I first discovered Smith & Cult at a nail salon with their line of nail polish in gorgeous hues. Turns out, they do the same for lip color. In a past, PopSugar Must-Have Box I fell in love with Smith & Cult’s The Shining Lip Laquer in The Warning (pictured here). This formula is sheer and sparkly so it can be layered over a matte color or worn alone. I do both.
Tata Harper // I’ve loved Tata Harper for skincare for many years, but last year I discovered the brands lip and cheek tints. They go on sheer, but you can layer them for more intense color. The Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint in Very Naughty (what I’m wearing in the above photo) is the perfect ntural-looking shade of ruby red. It also comes in some pretty pink and nude colors and the line also includes bronzer and highlighters.
