Crazy Sexy Me

01/26/11

Last week I attended the first stop on Kris Carr’s book tour at Jivamukti Cafe for her new book, Crazy Sexy Diet. It’s easy to develop a girl crush on Kris the second she starts speaking. She’s relatable, authentic, inspiring and super smart! I couldn’t wait to dig in to her beautiful new book and hear about her experiences with a raw, vegan diet. When I left I went straight home to tear into the shiny, gorgeous, newly-autographed book, The 21-day adventure cleanse at the end is the cherry on top!

Before I go any further, a bit of background: With a raw foods diet, Kris Carr overcame her cancer diagnosis and is living a rockin’ healthy life with her illness completely at bay. For more about Kris Carr, click here. How? Very simply put, the Crazy Sexy Diet is primarily an anti-inflammatory diet. Cancer cells live off crap which creates inflammation in the body. A mostly raw (or lightly cooked) diet full of whole grains, veggies (especially leafy greens), some fruit and healthy fats provides the vitamins, minerals and enzymes needed to keep you anti-oxidated and inflammation free … aka vibrant and healthy. There’s a lot more to it than that, but all the more reason to READ THIS BOOK!

I don’t know about you, but I used to think a raw foods diet meant downing excessive amounts of avocadoes and cucumbers for lunch without ever experiencing satiety. Not the case. The more I eat a raw and vegan diet characterized by tons of veggies (especially leafy greens), green juices and smoothies and of course, some raw chocolate ๐Ÿ˜‰ the better I feel.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not into labels so I don’t classify myself as a raw foodist, or even a vegan, but I DO try to incorporate elements of this diet into my own way of eating – every. chance. I. get. Why? Because it makes me feel out of this world fantastic – physically and mentally.

Here are just someof the benefits:

  • More energy
  • Clear, glowing skin
  • Fewer colds
  • Amazing sex
  • Fewer cravings
  • Better elimination

But I am realistic – and human — and there are those times when my body needs some wild caught fish or I’m out with friends and just want to taste a french fry (or two) or a bite of cake (or three) or another glass of wine. I allow myself this on occasion and make peace with it.

While I’ve been making more and more of an effort to eat a mostly vegan diet, this book has inspired me to take it just a bit further:

  • Eating vegan five days per week/ when at home
  • Drinking a green juice daily
  • Adding dry brushing to my daily routine
  • Being more cautious of my drinking water

Now for some inspiration:

I often sing the praise of vegan meals on this blog. Here are some of the raw/vegan meals I’ve posted/tweeted about in the past:

Raw lunch from One Lucky Duck and a green juice
Edamame hummus made at the MWAH! Easy Entertaining Cooking Class
Asian Lettuce Wraps
Nori wraps with leftover brown rice, hummus, arugula and avocado

Buddha Bowl

Have you experimented with a plant-based diet?

If you’ve read Crazy Sexy Diet what resonated most with you and how have you incorporated it into your lifestyle to create a Crazier Sexier You?

DRY JANUARY Some personal thoughts and observatio DRY JANUARY
Some personal thoughts and observations

๐ŸธI did it because I've always wanted to but my social life never cooperated. This time I decided to make it cooperate instead of waiting for it to.

๐ŸธI never had a "problem" with alcohol and didn't drink much, but thought I could benefit from a break as most people could

๐ŸธBeing In perimenopause sleep and anxiety have become an issue for me and I found that alcohol potentially exacerbated those issues.

๐ŸธAt first it was like breaking a habit as I found myself looking forward to my usual glass of wine on Friday nights to unwind, but I replaced that drink with a yin yoga class and sound bath that I love as a way to regulate my nervous system instead

๐ŸธI've enjoyed feeling more present when I go out to dinner or spend time with friends and exploring the many mocktail and NA drink options on menus has been fun. I've also been drinking more tea.

๐ŸธAm I going back to drinking? Not immediately or maybe not ever. I haven't decided yet but I do know I need more time to reap the benefits of this lifestyle before I decide.

I'll keep you posted!
