The Best Natural Lip Balms for Dry, Chapped Lips

02/26/19

best all natural lip balms

The seasons are changing and basically that means the weather is still windy and frigid. That dry, cold air can wreak havoc on sensitive, exposed skin like your hands, but also your lips. Unless I’m going out, I don’t necessarily like to put much on my lips but in this climate it’s unavoidable if I want to prevent chapping and cracking. I’ve rounded up some of the best natural lip balms I could find – and that I’ve actually used – to prevent dry chapped lips.

The requirements:

  • light, smooth coverage
  • made with (mostly) natural ingredients
  • pleasant smell
  • not sticky

One // SW Basics. Made locally in Brooklyn, Ny, this sampler kit of 4 beeswax lip balms has three organic ingredients – cocoa butter, beeswax and coconut oil – and they’re essential oil-infused making them smell so good!

Two // Smith’s. Back in the day Smith’s was on every celeb’s must-have list (probably still is) and now it’s definitely on mine. As far as natural lip balms go, Smith’s Rosebud Salve and Smith’s Minted Rose Lip Balm are classic cure-all’s for just about any kind of dry, chapped skin. I smear the salve all over my tissue-chapped nose whenever I have a cold and it works like charm.

Three // Kiehl’s. Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 is another favorite standby. I stash this in my ski jacket when I go skiing and have one in almost every purse I own. It’s a little thicker but absorbs quickly.

Four // Wedderspoon. More along the lines of a standard chapstick, the secret ingredient in the Manuka Honey Organic Lip Care is – you guessed it – soothing Manuka Honey. This lip balm goes on really light and acts fast to nourish your lips.

Five // Fresh. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments are the gold standard in lip care when you want to gift yourself or someone else something special. SPF 15 offers an extra line of defense. Choose a tinted one for a pop of color or layer the plain one under lipstick or gloss for a smooth, even application.

Six // Fatco. I don’t know what I love most about the Fat Stick – the uplifing smell of peppermint and lavender, the thick tube or the fact that this is more than just a lip balm. The grass-fed tallow makes it useful as a lotion for dry skin patches anywhere or cuticle repair. It’s organic, paleo-friendly and cruelty free.

Seven // Laneige. Lip Sleeping Mask goes on luxurously smooth and fully absorbs while you sleep, but don’t limit your use to overnight. Use it like a balm during the day for a subtle. tinted, barely-there sheen and enjoy the light berry smell while you wear it.

Do you see any of your favorite natural lip balms on this list or do you have one I should check out? Let me know in the comments!

Everyone knows that feeling of not being able to fit everything in a suitcase. We didn't have to buy an extra one. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿงณ

One thing I noticed is that alternative milk options were typically limited to soy or oat milk so most of the matcha I had was with oat milk. All of it was iced because summer. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿต
