A few things about me …

10/29/15

Health Coach and blogger Marissa Vicario reveals a few things about me so you can get to know the blogger - photo of Marissa Vicario

A few things about me …

I started Where I Need to Be 7 years ago when I was studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a Health Coach. I just wanted a place to share everything I was learning. Also, I was coming out of a very dark and difficult time in my life and the positive changes I was making on the road to becoming a health coach were changing my life in every way. I often found myself telling people, “I feel like I’m exactly where I need to be.” Hence the name of the blog.

When it started, my blog was on Blogger and had no pictures, but that changed pretty fast. I left my job as a Corporate PR Manager four years ago to become a full time Integrative Health and Nutrition Coach. I’ve been a runner and triathlete since before there were blogs but I don’t race much anymore.

Why am I telling you this? Today, I’m participating in a Blog Hop coordinated by Runaway Bridal Planner  AND it’s the end of the week so I thought we could have some fun with today’s post for the purpose of introducing (or re-introducing) myself. Maybe the best way to do is with one of those fun questions posts.

I know you usually have to be tagged with these, but I’m making my own rules + I’ve never done one on my blog and this seems like a good opportunity.

So here goes …

:: Four Names That People Call Me (Other Than My Real Name):

Mariss (family and friends)

Wife (my husband and I are newlyweds and still can’t believe we’re husband and wife, even though we’ve been together for six years!)

Babe (husband, again)

Mrs. McFarland

:: Four Jobs I’ve Had:

Cashier at an outdoor fruit stand (high school job)

Sales clerk at Ann Taylor (college job)

PR Manager

Certified Integrative Health and Nutrition Coach (current job)

:: Four Movies I Have Watched More Than Once:

Dirty Dancing

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

The Breakfast Club

Steel Magnolias

:: Four Books I’d Recommend:

Girl on the Train (I just read it)

The Art of Happiness (the Dalai Lama, need I say more?)

American Wife (I read it many years ago but couldn’t put it down)

Omnivore’s Dilemma (an oldie but goodie when it comes to knowing where your food comes from and understanding food quality)

Health Coach and blogger Marissa Vicario reveals a few things about me so you can get to know the blogger - photo of Marissa Vicario looking down at the ground

:: Four Places I’ve Lived:

Louisville, Ky. (born and raised)

Evanston, Il. (college)

Chicago, Il. (after college)

New York, Ny. (currently and for the past 11 years)

:: Four Places I Have Been:

Brazil

Iceland

Portugal

Marrakesh

:: Four Places I’d Rather Be Right Now:

On my honeymoon in Bora Bora (I’m leaving in less than a week!)

Hawaii (one of my favorite places in the world)

On a beach or by a pool

Visiting my family in Louisville

:: Four Things I Don’t Eat:

Chicken, Beef or Pork (I’ve been vegetarian or pescatarian for 24 years)

Oysters (I can’t bring myself to try them)

Farm-raised seafood

Milk

:: Four Of My Favorite Foods:

Any and ALL vegetables

Guacamole

Guacamole

Guacamole

:: Four TV Shows That I Watch(ed):

The Bachelor

Mistresses

The Affair

Shark Tank

I hardly ever watch TV but when I do, I make sure it’s extra trashy + 1 respectable show so my brain doesn’t rot.

:: Four Things I Am Looking Forward To This Year:

My new Group support and accountability Program, Holistically Hot, starting in November and continuing through January

My Honeymoon to the South Pacific

Thanksgiving

Christmas in the UK where my husband is from

:: Four Things I’m Saying:

“I’m as nervous for you as I would be if I were running myself” (to my husband who is running his 2nd NYC marathon on Sunday)

We’ll leave it at that. …

I’d love to get to know you! Choose one of the questions above and answer it with your comment.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you’ll come back!

    foodiecology_ What a wonderful place to live but I still don’t think I could try an oyster! I think it’s the texture that has me uncertain. That, and I’m terrified of getting a bad one and getting sick!

    Becky OlivesnWine I can’t believe I’ve never done one until now! Ahh Chicago … I miss it there but not the weather!! My sister had her bachelorette party there this summer and it had been years since I had been back. It was so nice to be there and see how much the city has changed since I left. Oh, and yes, wine totally counts! I should have included that. And sushi too. I love it!

    uptitemamas Ahhh Mistresses is the best! I was so worried when there was a chance there wouldn’t be a season 2 or 3! I swear that list of TV shows doesn’t cast me in the best light 😉

    Nice to “meet” you, Marissa. What a fun little survey.
    You mention you’ve never tried oysters; well, I’m born & raised (& still living) on the Gulf Coast, so oysters are practically a season around here!
    I’m totally with you on Shark Tank and guac, though! 😉 Hope you have an amazing, unforgettable honeymoon.

    Hi!  I’m visiting from the hop.  What a fun post! If I could start over, I’d like to work in the health & nutrition industry.  Kudos to you for doing something you are obviously passionate about.  Right now, I’d rather be snorkeling in the Virgin Islands.  My second choice would be waterskiing on any warm and calm lake.  Have a wonderful honeymoon in Bora Bora!

    (Sorry…here’s attempt #2 at commenting…I had to create a Livefyre accoount). Anyways, I love the question/answer format….I did a similar blog post a few months ago and had a lot of fun with it 😉 One of my answers to where I’d rather be referenced being on a beach also (Hawaii). Great minds 😉

    I love little surveys like this, it’s a great way to get to know the writer behind the blog! I moved to Florida from Chicago last year so I love to “meet” fellow former Chicagoans 🙂 Four foods I love? Definitely guacamole (like you!), bananas, wine (does this count as a food?!), and sushi.
