My weekends are all looking the same lately – brunch, Christmas shopping and errands. Instead of telling you about more of the same, I thought I’d share something beautiful I did last week – Christmas shopping for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The toy-shopping spree with actress and philanthropist Marlo Thomas was an inspiring way to spend an afternoon experiencing the true meaning of the holiday season.
Kmart recently marked a milestone achievement of donating $100 million to St. Jude in lifetime donations. They are the first corporate partner in the hospital’s history to reach this level of giving. The funds raised have the power to fully treat 206 patients with childhood cancer, provide more than 10 million meals for St. Jude families and cover the cost of 67,000 days of chemotherapy.
Cancer is never a happy subject to address, but the impact these donations are making on the children and their families who are suffering from the effects of dealing with childhood cancer – not just during the holidays, but year-round – are remarkable.
The #LOVE hats the kids are wearing are availabe at KMart for $5. A dollar of each purchase goes to St. Jude.
In addition to the monetary donations, Kmart is also donating $5,000 worth of toys to benefit St. Jude this Christmas season. I was invited with a handful of other bloggers and influencers to help Marlo and the St. Jude patients go Christmas shopping for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We each got to fill a cart with toys for children of all ages. It felt good knowing that our carts full of toys would help make the kids’ Christmases a little brighter. It also takes some of the financial stress of the holidays off of the families.

With a recent death in my family I have been turning down most events, but this is one as a cancer survivor myself that I did not want to miss and felt honored to be a small part of.
