Writing a Book: The hardest thing I’ve ever done

06/14/16

marissa vicario health coach shares her experience writing a book - Your Holistically Hot Transformation

I’ve done some difficult things in my lifetime, but I never thought writing a book would be among them.

:: When I was 10-years-old I stood up to a group of girls who were bullying me …

:: In my 20s I ended a long-term romantic relationship that felt comfortable, but deep down I knew it wasn’t my forever …

:: I ran the New York City Marathon in 2008 and went back for more in 2014; I completed a Spartan Race in 2012 …

Accomplishing these things required believing in myself and at  times trusting my intuition.

But nothing compares to the challenge of writing my first book.

Your Holistically Hot Transformation is now officially available in paperback and for a limited time (until June 15), it’s absolutely FREE on Kindle!

As a journalism major, I’ve been writing most of my life. I thought writing a book would be a breeze, but I encountered more self-doubt than I ever imagined I would.

I almost gave up.

Will anyone like it?
What will my mom think?
Who am I to write a book?
Am I ready to so vulnerably share my story?

All of these thoughts – and thousands more – crossed my mind as I put pen to paper to create Your Holistically Hot Transformation.

Self-doubt is our brain’s mechanism for keeping us safe when it feels scary to venture out of our comfort zone. Every time I feel myself playing it safe, I have to question where I would be if I hadn’t stood up for myself, known when to walk away from a relationship or taken on an ultimate physical challenge.

If John Grisham’s first novel was rejected by 16 agents and 12 publishing houses and Dr. Seuss was turned down by 27 publishers, I knew I could make this book happen.

I let my fear motivate me into writing a book that makes me proud to put my name on it. I wrote from my heart and with one intention: to reach the women out there who need this book – the woman who feels stuck, confused or ready to give up because she’s tried everything. I wrote this book for her. To let her know that there is a way, that everything doesn’t have to be so complicated and that it’s going to be OK.

As of today, Your Holistically Hot Transformation is #1 in THREE Amazon Kindle categories:

The triple strain of caring for kids, aging parent The triple strain of caring for kids, aging parents and our careers is real. Caregivers (especially those from the sandwich generation) spend an average of 27 hours/week providing care to others and nearly 40% of them spend 40 hours/week caregiving, the equivalent of a full time job. Thank you to @pacirabio and @theskimm for inviting me to be part of this powerful conversation, take a pause and feel less alone. #betterispossible #middleofitalltalks 💚💋🗣️
