Food Combining: The Way to Stellar Digestion

My boyfriend says I always have my nose in a different book, and he’s right. I simply cannot soak up enough knowledge when it comes to health and wellness. I recently forayed into the world of detoxing from Candida when I picked up Natalia’ Rose‘s book, Detox 4 Women.

There are plenty of interesting tidbits in the book, but the one I latched onto was food combining. I was certainly aware of this concept before, but I hadn’t paid much attention.Perhaps I wasn’t ready for the information or maybe I found the rules too rigid to get my head around. But Rose laid them out so simply, that it finally made some sense.

Quite simply, food combining is the practice of eating foods that complement each other and therefore digest well together. Properly combining foods keeps the body alkaline, revs up metabolism for efficient digestion and ensures that the nutrients in your whole foods diet are fully absorbed. If you’re interested in the science behind it, go here.

If you want to try food combining for yourself, all it takes is a willingness to be aware of what you’re eating and knowledge of some basic guidelines:

1. Vegetables combine with most foods
2. Protein combines with vegetables
3. Starch combines with vegetables
4. Melon does not combine well with other foods
5. Fruit should be avoided when detoxing. All other times, see the above chart (click on the photo to link to a larger version).

This blog post just brushes the surface of food combining. If you’re interested in learning more, contact mefor resources.
