I rarely get super personal here but since I’ve been gone longer than usual I thought an explanation was in order.
I got engaged in Paris!
The plan was to go to London and spend about five days there before heading to Newcastle, England where we would spend Christmas with David’s family. On our first night in London, David surprised me with a trip to Paris, and two days later we got engaged overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
Almost five years ago David and I met at work. He had just moved to NYC from London. He was nice, we shared similar interests and he was easy to talk to.
But when he asked me on an impromptu date one snowy day in March, I was hesitant to go. Hurt from past relationships and emotionally paralyzed, I didn’t think I was lovable or destined to find a partner.
I was learning how to be happy without a man and finally getting the hang of it.
I told him to call me later that evening, making a deal with myself that if he actually called (something, in my experience, men rarely did anymore), I would meet him that night.
He called and I went.
Day after day, week after week, David continued to ask me out. With an open heart, I promised myself that if he kept showing up for me, I would show up for him.
And just like that I found the love of my life, the one who would make me laugh every single day and love me unconditionally.
Our love didn’t come when or how I had ever planned, but it couldn’t have been more perfect.
We’re still celebrating with family this week, but I’ll be back to regular blogging next week. And expect to see a few wedding-related health and wellness tips in the future.
