Diary of a Total Reset Girl: Carly

11/19/12

Meet Carly. A two-time Total Reset Plan-er. A newlywed at the time, she initially signed up for the Spring plan so she and her husband could get on track with healthy eating. A surprising side effect of the plan? She’s a green juice addict these days!

The best part about Carly’s story is that she made the plan work for her — instead of letting the plan work her. When she had family in town, she stepped away where she needed to but still saw the benefits. That was my vision with this plan all along!

Occupation: Teacher
Location: Chicago, IL
Total Reset Plan: Spring and Winter

1. Why did you decide to do the Total Reset Plan?

I had done the Total Reset Plan in the Spring, and I really enjoyed the recipes. I always try to eat more clean and green, but I have a difficult time following through with finding and trying new recipes on my own. My husband and I had also recently made a major life transition from a condo in Chicago to a house in the suburbs. During the moving process, we’d both gotten a little sidetracked with our eating habits. This was an opportunity for us to (no pun intended) press the reset button.

2. What surprised you the most about the program?

That green juice would sustain me until lunch! It’s become a near necessity for me to have on work mornings now. Sometimes if I am a little hungry I’ll have a light snack about an hour afterwards, but either way I feel much more energetic and satisfied on the mornings when I start my day with a green juice.

3. What overall changes did you see?

I felt lighter and more energetic within the first week, and my core slimmed down. I wasn’t able to stick to the plan for all 4 weeks because during part of the 3rd and 4th weeks we had family visiting, which affected my dinners, although I stuck to my green juices and made my own lunches when I could. I’m now looking forward to starting the plan over again to cleanse my system and also try the recipes that I wasn’t able to try.

4.What was your favorite meal from the plan?

I didn’t get to try everything (though I’m looking forward to trying what I missed!), but I really loved the Lentil and Arugula Salad, and also the Spaghetti Squash. My husband liked both, too, and we were surprised at the combination of lime with the spaghetti squash, which we never would have guessed would have tasted so good together!

5. Where are you now with your healthy eating?

I’m sticking to my green juices as often as possible, creating healthy salads from the plan for lunch, and trying to get my dinners back on track (after having to a take a break from the plan toward the end). My body and mind are much happier when I’m eating recipes from the plan or with the principles of the plan in mind.

The final round of the Fall Total Reset Plan starts on Monday, November 26. Follow up your Thanksgiving indulgences with healthy meal planning and cooking at home to get you through the holidays on track. Sign up now before it’s too late!

Best matcha: @overlookcoffeecompany for sustainability sourced coffee and smooth matcha. The owners are cool too. This is a well-kept secret because not even the mountain guide knew it was there.
