Have you ever been somewhere inspiring doing something you love and the combination of the two just makes you come alive? If you have, you know it’s the best feeling in the world. This happens to me most often when I’m being active and feel connected to nature.
It was at some point during my twenties when the shift happened. I was on a date and the words just came flying out of my mouth. I had referred to myself as being “outdoorsy.” I immediately thought to myself, “Did I just say that? Is it true?” The truth was, as a teenager and throughout college I liked the gym, I liked shopping and I liked to write. Nobody I knew would describe me as someone who loves being outdoors. But as I developed in my running and triathlon training and took on new interests like skiing and surfing, I began to notice my spirit come alive when my workouts and activities took me outside.
On a recent trip to Arizona, I experienced a different side of nature in the Sonoran Dessert – a stark difference from the lush green running trails, sandy beaches and snowy mountains I’ve always been drawn to. It was there in the dessert that I had an opportunity to challenge myself on a hike like I’ve never experienced before amidst beautiful wildlife I had never before seen.
Here’s a peek at my surroundings:
Where and when do you come alive?
