Happy New Year! Every year around this time, I write a post explaining how I dislike resolutions and am more drawn to goals and dreams. This past Summer I found myself at Urban Outfitters purchasing a copy of The 52 Lists Project. I love making lists and this seemed like the perfect little journal for me, but I wanted to wait until 2017 to use it. In fact, I may make each week of lists into a weekly blog post (tbd).
For now, List #1 in the book is goals and dreams — obviously. In the past, I’ve been inclined to make long lists of goals which becomes overwhelming and doesn’t allow me to do everything as well as I’d like. So for the past few years, I’ve taken the “less is more” approach to goal setting which is a lot more managable and lets me be more present with each goal rather than treating them like items to check off of a list.
As I do each year, I divided my list into business goals and personal goals. One feels a little too personal to reveal right now, but here is the rest of the list:
- Invite one new person/couple over for dinner each month
- Become a certified barre instructor
- Overhaul my web site
- Write the manuscript for my 2nd book
Like I said, the focus is on fewer, bigger goals. Goals should feel like a stretch and these, right now, feel very stretchy, if not, a little uncomfortable to me. That’s how I know I’m on the right track.
I hope you’ll continue to follow along with me to see how these turn out. I’ll be checking back in with them – and maybe creating full posts on a few – as the year goes on.
Now you. What are your goals and dreams for 2017?
[…] because it’s Golden Globes weekend and I’m making it a point to be more intentional in 2017, I pushed ahead with it and challenged myself to list at least five. Ironically, not a one is a […]
