This year, I celebrate 13 years living in New York City. THIRTEEN years!! To say I’ve always been in love with this city would be untrue. It has tried my patience and my sanity, but it will always have my heart. When I moved here, I had no intention of staying as long as I have. I moved for love, but in the process, I ended up finding myself. In that sense, New York City has given me a gift I can never repay. Truly, though, every day I get to explore and experience life in New York City is a gift. You can live here a lifetime and still never uncover all it has to offer. One of my greatest joys has been creating my own healthy New York City.
I’m partnering with Mercedes-Benz to share my version of a healthy New York City. People are always asking me about my favorite spots in the city, and I decided it’s time to share them with you guys. If you had just one day in New York City, these are my can’t-miss spots.
————————–
One // Start with exercise. I always move my body to start my day and one of my favorite places to do that is with a run or a stroll through Central Park. Once inside the park, I usually find my way to the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. In the midst of a busy city, I find such a sense of calm there and, surprisingly, you get some great views of the city skyline.
Two // Always brunch. We New Yorkers love our brunch, so next is brunch at Two Hands, a cafe inspired by Australia’s health-centric cafes. You cannot miss the acai bowl and of course, the avocado toast.
Three // Shop local. Swing by the Union Square Greenmarket on a sunny day to peruse the local produce, flowers and even baked goods from the area’s purveyors.
Four // Get a pick-me-up. The matcha lattes at Cha Cha Matcha are some of the best in the city. The owners know their matcha and it shows. Get the ginger turmeric matcha latte. Be prepared to line up for your latte, but it moves fast and the matcha treats are worth the short wait.
Five // Browse beautiful art. It’s hard to be in New York City and miss a chance to visit a museum. My favorites are the Museum of Modern Art if you find yourself Uptown or the New Whitney if you’re Downtown. Also, check out the exhibits to decide which one you’d prefer (if you only have time to visit one).
Six // Happy hour with views. From May – October, climb aboard Grand Banks, an oyster bar aboard a historic wooden schooner on the Hudson River, for rose, lobster rolls and a breathtaking city sunset. Go early or else be prepared to wait in line. Space on board the boat is limited.
So, what’s YOUR version of New York City? If you live in or plan on visiting NYC, LA, Chicago, Austin, Miami, or Denver, Mercedes-Benz is inviting you to share your city in a simple and artistic way on Instagram. It’s easy—you create a quick (but beautiful) animated album of 5 of your best geotagged photos and upload it to Instagram. Then, you share your album on your feed with the hashtag #MBsociallydriven—and your photos might be featured on the Mercedes-Benz website!
